The Old Town of Split forms the historical heart of the city on Croatia’s eastern Adriatic coast. It is characterized by Diocletian's Palace, an ancient building complex that has gradually merged with later medieval and modern structures. Under the official title Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian, the Old Town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
